On-set and rhyme

A inspired idea from teachertipster.com!

A simple thing really, just glass gems, those that you can put in the bottom of a fish tank or on display in you living room.  I bought these from the Range for £1.99, they came in a plastic tub and there were loads of them!

I have to say I was a little sceptical about this idea at first, but after the glass gems were left on my side in the classroom for a few days, the children were so intrigued by them! So this weekend I finally got round to taking them home.  All you need is a Sharpie marker and some clear nail varnish!

I chose to write the rhyme, e.g. 'it' on one colour gem, then the on-set on another colour, e.g. h, k, l.  The idea is that the children put the gems together to make different words.  In Plan, Learn, Review yesterday, I tested the activity and I have to say it was a success!  The children loved the way the gems felt and with the aid of some felt-tips and large scrap paper, were recoding loads of different words!  Success!  Thank-you Teachertipster.com!
