The Evil Dr. Decay...Part 2!

So..her are a few more images of our morning with the Evil Dr. Decay!  I told you I had spent all morning sticky taping crime scene tape and drawing footprints on the floor?  Well, here they are!  It doesn't look much, but the kids really fell for it and got right in the mood for our character creation!

Superhero teamwork!
So, the children were asked to create a superhero character who would be suited to defeating Dr. Decay!  First they came up with a name, logo and costume for their superhero.  You can just see in the photo the whiteboard with the kids ideas on it.  They then worked as a team to draw round a friend and paint the details onto their superhero!

Here are the finished articles:
Pineapple Boy!

Blackberry Girl!
Banana man!
Fruit-bomb man!
Blueberry Boy!

On-set and rhyme

A inspired idea from teachertipster.com!

A simple thing really, just glass gems, those that you can put in the bottom of a fish tank or on display in you living room.  I bought these from the Range for £1.99, they came in a plastic tub and there were loads of them!

I have to say I was a little sceptical about this idea at first, but after the glass gems were left on my side in the classroom for a few days, the children were so intrigued by them! So this weekend I finally got round to taking them home.  All you need is a Sharpie marker and some clear nail varnish!

I chose to write the rhyme, e.g. 'it' on one colour gem, then the on-set on another colour, e.g. h, k, l.  The idea is that the children put the gems together to make different words.  In Plan, Learn, Review yesterday, I tested the activity and I have to say it was a success!  The children loved the way the gems felt and with the aid of some felt-tips and large scrap paper, were recoding loads of different words!  Success!  Thank-you Teachertipster.com!

The evil Dr. Decay!

Caught in the playground!
I had the best day in school today!  I started my morning by sticky taping 'CRIME SCENE:  DO NOT CROSS' across my fruit basket then chalking footprints across the floor!

It seemed that the evil Dr. Decay had snook into the classroom in the early hours of the morning and stole all of year 2's fruit!  The only thing that could stop him was the appearance of some fruit-loving superheroes!  Very conveniently designed and made by the children!

The children came up with a name, logo and costume for their superheroes, the drew round the body of one of the group.  They added details and then painted the superheroes.

They look absolutely fab!  They just need to be cut out and have the catchphrases added to them!  Once they are all finished, Ill post them on here as they are rather impressive!  Later in the week I am also hoping to have some rather spectacular comic strips to accompany the story of the fruit-steeling doctor!
